Bend The Rules, Not Break Them

Today Mav and I went to Chester Zoo with the school.  Mav went as a chaperone for Yr 3 and I went as a chaperone for Yr 6, but once we got there, we teamed up and walked round together.

Now, before they even got on to the bus, they where all told in assembly by the Headmaster that the money that they had brought with them was not to be spent on sweets; ice cream and/or a souvenir would be fine.

Everything was going swimmingly until we got to the shop.  People didn’t have enough money for this, others where trying to scrounge money for that, and when they saw that others where having sweets ……. Finally, after much sulking I told them all that if they wanted sweets that was fine, they could buy them, but they where not to eat them until after school, that way they wouldn’t get themselves in to any trouble and technically we wouldn’t be breaking the rules.

Needless to say this wasn’t good enough for 1 or 2 of them, and by the time we got to the penguins you could cut the atmosphere with a knife, it didn’t help that one of them decided to call me ‘stupid’ for bending the rules.  Thomas then spent the rest of the afternoon with the biggest cob on you’d ever seen and 1 of the others didn’t actually stop long enough to see the animals.

When we got back to the bus, one of the girls who’d bought a big sugar dummy got it out and started to eat it ….. guess what?  She got told off! Who’d’ve thought that would happen?????

Once we where back at home Thomas finally apologised for his behaviour, but not before I’d given them the lecture on how as a chaperone it is my job to make sure that everyone is safe, everyone has a nice time and that everyone gets to see at least 1 thing that they want to see.  Not sure if I’ll volunteer my services again so quickly, which is a bit of a shame as Christian will be the only one left in Junior school.

Enough moaning, here’s a few pictures of the animals for you to see.
