How To Deal With Cold Callers

I had one of those phone calls today, you know the ones “Can I speak to ……….” and usually the person who they want to speak isn’t you!

The man who rang up asked for Mav by name which didn’t impress me (companies tend to ask for you by using your surname as well), so I asked who was calling (getting ready to go play hunt the pen and paper).  When I asked him for the company he worked for he got a bit snotty which immediately got my back up, but nevertheless, I politely told him he was at work (which he is).  He then asked did I know when he’d be back (again snottily), to which I replied “when he’s finished” ….. lol Open-mouthed.  I know I shouldn’t have said that, but he shouldn’t have been a snotty git!

Oooooooh!  He didn’t like that at all, got even more snotty with me, asked didn’t I know when he’d be back? so I told him “No, he gets back at all different times”.  Well, you’ve never heard a phone ‘click’ so quickly… and that was him!

Can’t wait for the next time he calls …. hehehehehe Open-mouthed

My favourite trick is to play along with them wasting their time until they ask for personal details. When they ask why dont you want XYZ, I said I just want to waste your time like you waste mine in calling me. OH yes to stop junk mail save it up and send it each other. eg the Takeaway menu to the credit card company, they have to pay postage then, but not if you throw away.
